Limited Edition Black Intelligent NXT Brick micro-controller

March 14th, 2009

When i was a kid, LEGO to me meant little colorful blocks that you could use to build little cities, and to parents, it was a reason to wear shoes around the house. I have just recently found out that LEGO’s were not stuck in there old ways, but instead, they have inbraced the new technologies and enbedded these technologies into there toys. Don’t get me wrong, the classics never die, but there is nothing wrong with a little change and i think LEGO know this all to well.

One of LEGO’s most popular achivements, i am sure you have heard of it or even played it, LEGO Star Wars. Is just a example of there work. You have to stop and admire there determination to bring fun to the people, by animating a toy i am sure that at one point, everyone, wished that there little buddy living in the house of LEGO’s was real. Yeah, i know there was Barbies and Action figuers of all sorts, but almost everyone in america has played with LEGO’s.

Here are the specs for the toy in the pictur above:

The NXT intelligent Brick includes:

  • 32-bit ARM7 microprocessor.
  • Support for Bluetooth wireless communication.
  • 1 USB 2.0 port.
  • 4 input ports.
  • 3 output ports.
  • Powered by 6 AA (1.5v) Batteries, not included, or lithium Rechargeable Battery (#9798), sold separately.
  • Up to three NXT Bricks can be connected at the same time; however, you can only communicate with one NXT Brick at a time.

WireLess Power?

March 11th, 2009

www.ecoupled.com

What is eCoupled Technology

eCoupled™ technology is real, INTELLIGENT wireless power. It is the next generation of power delivery worldwide. It is intelligence that moves technology beyond traditional constraints of inductive coupling and wireless power into the next realm.

By leveraging the physics of near-field inductive coupling and combining it with communications and control properties – made available by microprocessor technology – Fulton Innovation builds its advanced intelligence solutions and proprietary algorithms, which are the keys to eCoupled technology and real wireless power.

Power is a current which takes the path of least resistance when broadcast across an open space – unless it is controlled. Traditional power cords serve as physical channels for power to travel through, controlling the path of the energy. eCoupled technology eliminates the need for power cords by creating an electromagnetic conduit combined with an intelligent control system that constantly monitors the power flow to insure optimal efficiency and safety.

The Difference is Intelligence

The intelligence of eCoupled technology allows it to dynamically seek resonance and optimize power transfers at high efficiencies (greater than 98% at 120 volts/1.4 kilowatts) under multiple, varying spatial configurations and load conditions – from low-power to high-power applications. Power and data can now be efficiently transmitted to virtually any electrical device without the constraints of cords, connectors or contact points. And the solution can be either adaptive or integrated. This means that different devices from different brands requiring different power needs can share a single power source creating a truly interoperable solution at energy costs comparable to hard-wired connections.

Through its advanced identification protocol, eCoupled technology adapts its operation to match the needs of each device it powers by communicating with it in real time. It assesses and determines not only power needs but also factors in battery or device age and charging lifecycles. It provides only the necessary power needed to keep a device at peak efficiency.

Additionally, eCoupled technology authenticates any device within range. If a device or object is not immediately recognized as eCoupled compatible, the power source will not supply power to it, maintaining a safe operating environment. eCoupled technology has been validated by standards organizations in 36 countries for safety, electromagnetic compatibility (noise) and other international performance criteria.

What IS WIMAX?

March 11th, 2009

Find More here: WIMAX.com and WIKIPEDIA.com

WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Inter-operability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-multipoint links to portable and fully mobile internet access. The technology provides up to 72 Mbit/s symmetric broadband speed without the need for cables. The technology is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard (also called Broadband Wireless Access). The name “WiMAX” was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformity and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as “a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL”.[1]

What Is WIFI?

March 10th, 2009

Main Article : Wikipedia.org

Wi-Fi (IPA: /ˈwaɪfaɪ/) is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance, founded in 1999 as Wireless Internet Compatibility Alliance (WICA), comprising more than 300 companies, whose products are certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, based on the IEEE 802.11 standards (also called Wireless LAN (WLAN) and Wi-Fi). This certification warrants interoperability between different wireless devices.

The alliance was founded because many products did not correctly implement IEEE 802.11 and some included proprietary extensions. This led to incompatibilities between products from different manufacturers.

The Wi-Fi Alliance tests the wireless components to their own terms of reference. Products that pass become Wi-Fi certified and may carry the Wi-Fi logo. Only products of Wi-Fi Members are tested, because they pay membership and per-item fees. Absence of the Wi-Fi logo does not necessarily mean non-compliance with the standard.

In France, Poland, the United States, and some other countries, the term Wi-Fi often is used by the public as a synonym for wireless Internet (WLAN); but not every wireless Internet product has a Wi-Fi certification, which may be because of certification costs that must be paid for each certified device type.

Wi-Fi certification is provided for technology used in home networks, mobile phones, video games, and other devices that require wireless networking. It covers IEEE 802.11 standards, including 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n.

Wi-Fi is supported by most personal computer operating systems, many game consoles, laptops, smartphones, printers, and other peripherals

Alaska Airlines has a 60-day WIFI test

March 10th, 2009

Alaska Airlines has a 60-day test, but the firm’s VP of marketing made it clear that the test is just a check on passenger interest, usage, and production readiness.  Either way, there is a strong possibility that WIFI will be the new standard during you flights before 2012. The Wi-Fi service is designed for laptops and handhelds, even VoIP over WiFi. Cell phone use is banned by the FCC on U.S. flights. VoIP over Wi-Fi policy may vary on different airlines. WIFI Coverage could look something like this in the future.
